Sun lens customization guide

Sunglass Lens Options
for OEM/ODM projects.

A sunglass lens brief needs more than a color name. The project should identify base material, visible tint, light-transmission direction, surface effect, polarization requirement, UV requirement, shape and the tests expected for the destination market. XH Glasses supplies non-prescription sunglasses lenses by project; prescription lenses are not included.

Discuss your specification ↗

Material, lens and branding options are reviewed project by project. Final specifications, performance claims, testing and destination-market requirements are confirmed before production.

01

Choose a base lens direction

Common non-prescription sun-lens discussions may include CR-39-type resin, polycarbonate, nylon or other suitable polymers. Each route has different processing, design and commercial considerations, but a material name alone does not establish impact performance, optical quality or regulatory compliance. The selected material, thickness, curve, color process and supplier specification are confirmed together.

  • CR-39-type resin direction
  • Polycarbonate direction
  • Nylon or polyamide direction
  • Other supplier-supported materials by feasibility
  • No prescription power supplied
02

Build the visible tint

Grey, brown, green, amber, blue, pink and fashion colors can be used as starting directions. A solid tint remains relatively consistent across the lens, while a gradient moves from darker to lighter. Double-gradient or special color concepts may be reviewed where technically feasible. Screen color is only a reference; samples and measurable criteria should control production.

  • Solid tint
  • Single gradient
  • Double-gradient or fashion direction
  • Custom color reference by sample
  • Visible light transmission or filter category confirmed by project
03

Add surface and visual effects

Mirror and flash-mirror directions change the reflected appearance of the front surface and may be combined with selected base tints. The final color depends on lens material, tint, coating system, viewing angle and lighting. Claims about scratch resistance, durability or coating performance require a defined system and evidence; they are not assumed from the word “mirror.”

  • Full mirror direction
  • Light flash-mirror direction
  • Color combinations by approved sample
  • Coating compatibility reviewed with lens and frame
04

Specify polarization separately

Polarized lenses are intended to manage certain reflected glare, but “polarized” is a technical requirement, not just a darker tint. It must be specified, sampled and verified for the selected lens construction. Polarization does not by itself prove UV performance, impact resistance, driving suitability or compliance with every destination market.

  • Polarization requested in the project brief
  • Axis, color and visual result confirmed by supplier/sample
  • Finished product verification included when required
  • No automatic link to other performance claims
05

Treat UV400 as a confirmed requirement

UV400 can be requested as a custom order requirement. It must be tied to the actual lens, product and agreed verification method before it is used as a public product claim. The same principle applies to UVA/UVB percentages, filter categories, visible light transmission and suitability warnings. We can discuss third-party testing according to the product type and destination market.

  • Write UV400 into the approved specification
  • Confirm lens color and performance together
  • Define test method or laboratory requirement
  • Keep model- and order-specific evidence
06

Complete the lens brief

The lens outline and curve must work with the frame construction. Brands should also confirm edge treatment, logo placement if any, intended use, market labeling and whether replacement lenses or color sets are needed. For optical frames, XH Glasses provides only non-prescription demo lenses for display and transport. These options are general-use sunwear directions, not occupational, medical, eclipse-viewing or specialist sports eye protection.

  • Lens shape, curve and fit
  • Material, tint and surface effect
  • Polarization and UV requirement
  • Marking, labeling and test documents
  • Approved sample before bulk production

Before quotation

Prepare a complete lens request

A useful lens request connects appearance with intended use and verification. Send the frame reference, required lens outline or curvature, preferred base material direction, tint or gradient sample, mirror color if needed and whether polarization and UV400 are required. Identify the destination market and any customer test protocol before quotation. If you need several colors in one model, provide the proposed quantity split so supplier and production minimums can be checked. Avoid relying on words such as dark green or light smoke alone; a physical sample, measured color reference or clearly identified approved lens gives the development team a more reliable target.

Commercial starting point

Confirm the details
before the clock starts.

MOQ
Standard MOQ starts from 300 pairs per style in total; color allocation, material and component minimums are confirmed by project.
Sampling
Typically 7–10 working days after design, material and process details are confirmed.
Production
Approximately 25 working days after sample approval and order confirmation, subject to complexity, supply and production scheduling.
Evidence
Materials, performance, certification and environmental claims require product- and order-specific documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Make the brief
more precise.

Can you provide UV400 sunglasses?+

UV400 can be specified as a custom project requirement. It must be confirmed for the selected lens and order, with testing arranged when required.

Are polarized lenses always UV400?+

Not automatically. Polarization and UV performance are separate requirements and should each be specified and verified.

What lens colors are available?+

Grey, brown, green, amber and fashion colors can be reviewed in solid, gradient or selected mirror directions. Availability depends on material, supplier and approved sample.

Do you provide prescription lenses?+

No. Sunglasses use non-prescription lenses by project, and optical frames are supplied with non-prescription demo lenses only.

From option list to approved sample.
