Approve development

Review and approve
an eyewear sample.

Direct answer

An OEM eyewear sample should be reviewed against a named model, sample version and written specification. Check shape, dimensions, material, colors, lenses, components, logo and packaging relationship, then consolidate feedback in one version-controlled record. Identify the final approved physical reference and authorized approver before bulk production.

01

Define what the sample must demonstrate

A concept sample, color/logo sample, construction sample, testing sample and approved production reference can serve different purposes. Agree which stage the project needs before work is quoted. A visual sample does not automatically prove UV400, impact resistance, restricted substances or destination compliance. Record its scope so a temporary material or untested lens is not mistaken for a final production specification.

  • Sample purpose and model code
  • Specification and artwork version
  • Final versus temporary components
  • Required test-sample identity tracked separately
02

Review identity, geometry and physical appearance

Before judging details, record the sample version, date, colorway and reviewer. Compare overall silhouette, front/side proportions, bridge, temples and critical dimensions with the agreed drawing. Compare acetate, metal finish, lens and decoration with physical references where possible. Screens and photographs are useful records but unreliable final color standards.

  • Model, sample and specification version
  • Critical dimensions and agreed reference points
  • Frame alignment and visible assembly
  • Physical color and finish references
03

Separate lens, logo and packaging checks

Confirm the lens color, solid or gradient appearance, shape, seating and specified treatment. A photograph cannot prove UV performance or polarization. Check the authorized logo file, method, size, orientation, position and interior text. If packaging is included, verify frame-to-case fit and each packaging approval separately; frame approval does not approve the case or box.

  • Lens appearance and recorded performance requirement
  • Logo artwork, position, color and process
  • Non-prescription demo lens for optical frames
  • Case fit and packaging version where included
04

Write changes as actions, not impressions

Useful feedback states the location, current condition, requested change, reference dimension or file, owner and whether a revised physical sample is required. Consolidate comments from all buyer participants into one list. Avoid contradictory instructions spread across email, messaging apps and calls. “Make it premium” is not measurable; “move the temple logo to the dimension shown in drawing V3” is.

  • One authorized feedback owner
  • Annotated image plus consolidated written list
  • From/to change and governing reference
  • Status: open, accepted, revised or rejected
05

Approve explicitly and preserve the reference

Record the approved sample version, specification, artwork, packaging reference, exceptions, date and authorized approver. Sample approval records the known reference at that stage; normal production tolerances and the agreed quality plan still apply. Changes after approval may affect cost, tooling, lead time and the need for a revised sample. Production time is confirmed separately after approval and order confirmation.

  • Approved physical sample or clearly agreed alternative
  • Signed or recorded production specification
  • Known exceptions and approved changes
  • Production release authority and date

Common mistakes

Avoid assumptions
that cannot be produced.

  1. 01Approving “the latest sample” without a model and version identifier
  2. 02Using screen color as the only production color reference
  3. 03Treating a visual sample as proof of lens or market performance
  4. 04Sending separate, conflicting revision messages from several contacts
  5. 05Requesting production before open changes and exceptions are recorded

Resource FAQ

Questions before the next decision.

How long does eyewear sampling take?+

Typical sampling takes 7–10 working days after the relevant design, material, lens, color, logo and sample requirements are confirmed. Tooling, sourcing and revisions can extend the schedule.

Is a photo approval enough for bulk production?+

Photos can help record visible details, but a physical approved sample plus a written specification is a stronger production reference. Color and fit decisions should not rely on screens alone.

What should a sample approval record include?+

Record the sample version, dimensions, materials, colors, lenses, components, logo, packaging relationship, accepted tolerances, open exceptions and the authorized approver.

Does sample approval guarantee a fixed delivery date?+

No. Bulk production typically takes around 25 working days after sample approval and order confirmation, but the confirmed schedule depends on materials, components, testing, quantity and production allocation.

Project boundary

This guide is a project-planning resource, not legal, testing or certification advice. Requirements depend on the final product, intended use, destination market and responsible economic operators. Capabilities, costs, lead times, testing and documentation are confirmed project by project and apply only when stated in the final quotation or written agreement.
