Prepare the brief
OEM eyewear RFQ
checklist.
Direct answer
A useful OEM eyewear RFQ identifies the buyer, product, intended use, target market, design reference, dimensions, frame material, colors, lens requirements, logo, packaging, quantity, requested evidence and schedule. It also separates confirmed requirements from ideas that remain open for feasibility review. A complete RFQ supports a clearer quotation; it does not by itself confirm availability, price or lead time.
Commercial and market context
Begin with the company, brand, buyer type, destination countries, sales channel, target consumer, intended use and launch window. State whether the product is a general-use non-prescription sunglass, an optical frame with demo lenses, or another route requiring separate review. The buyer or importer should identify known market roles, label languages, testing and documentation expectations instead of relying on the delivery address alone.
- Company, brand and authorized contact
- Destination country, sales channel and intended user
- Product type and intended use
- Known importer, label and document requirements
Frame construction and measurable references
Attach buyer-owned drawings, front/side/detail images, measurements or an authorized physical reference. Mark which features are required and which are visual inspiration. Record the frame category, material direction, dimensions, front and temple colors, visible components, surface appearance and decorative details. A photo cannot prove a material grade, dimension or reproducible construction.
- Technical drawing, measurements or reference sample
- Acetate or metal direction by project
- Critical frame, bridge and temple dimensions
- Color, finish, hinge and decoration decisions
Lens and branding specification
For sunglasses, define the proposed lens material direction, color, solid or gradient appearance, polarization, mirror appearance and UV400 requirement separately. Lens darkness does not prove UV performance. For branding, provide authorized vector artwork, placement, size, color and preferred process—or mark the process open for review. Screen printing, laser marking and custom metal decoration depend on the actual material and geometry.
- Non-prescription sunglass or demo-lens route
- Lens color, treatment and claim wording
- UV400 and polarization specified separately
- Logo artwork, size, placement and process
Quantity, packaging and timeline
List the quantity by style and proposed frame–lens combination. Typical MOQ starts from 300 pairs per style in total, with colors combined, subject to material, lens, component and process minimums. Identify every case, cloth, pouch, printed card or retail box required; each item may have a separate MOQ and lead time. Provide target sample approval, production-ready and shipment dates—not only the retail launch date.
- Style and SKU quantity matrix
- Proposed color and lens split
- Packaging bill of materials and artwork status
- Sample, approval, production and launch milestones
Evidence, rights and open decisions
List requested testing, inspection, reports, labels or declarations before quotation. No universal certificate or report is implied. Buyers must own or be authorized to use submitted designs, trademarks, customer information and artwork. An RFQ does not automatically establish confidentiality, exclusivity, tooling ownership or a production order; identify any request that needs a separate written agreement.
- Destination-market test or document brief
- Buyer inspection or third-party inspection request
- Design and trademark authorization
- Open assumptions, exclusions and agreement requests

Common mistakes
Avoid assumptions
that cannot be produced.
- 01Asking for a final price while the product remains undefined
- 02Treating a public image as permission to reproduce a design
- 03Assuming a dark, mirrored or polarized lens is automatically UV400
- 04Leaving destination requirements and responsible parties until after sampling
- 05Mixing confirmed specifications and optional ideas in one instruction

Resource FAQ
Questions before the next decision.
Do I need a finished technical drawing to request a quotation?+
Not always. Clear reference views, target dimensions and a written specification can start feasibility review. New construction, tooling and unresolved dimensions may require further development before a production quotation is final.
What information affects an eyewear quotation most?+
Frame construction, material, dimensions, lens specification, colors, logo method, quantity, packaging, destination requirements, testing and approval scope are key quotation inputs.
Can I send a branded reference frame?+
Only when you own or are authorized to use the design, trademark and artwork. A reference supports discussion but does not grant copying or intellectual-property rights.
Will an RFQ automatically create an order or confidentiality agreement?+
No. An RFQ is a request for project review. Pricing, confidentiality, tooling, exclusivity, ownership, timing and production commitments apply only when separately confirmed in writing.
This guide is a project-planning resource, not legal, testing or certification advice. Requirements depend on the final product, intended use, destination market and responsible economic operators. Capabilities, costs, lead times, testing and documentation are confirmed project by project and apply only when stated in the final quotation or written agreement.
